A person’s age can be calculated differently in different cultures. This calculator is based on the most common age system. In this system, age grows on the birthday. For example, the life span of a person who lives 3 years and 11 months is 3 and the years will turn 4 on his next birthday one month later. Many western countries use this age plan.
In some cultures, years are expressed by counting years plus or minus the current year. For example, one person in his twenties is equal to the person in his 21st year of life. In one of the traditional Chinese age plans, people are born 1 year old and the age grows in the Chinese Traditional New Year instead of birthday. For example, if one child was born just one day before the Chinese New Year, 2 days later, the child would be 2 years old even though he was only two days old.
In some cases, the effect of months and days on this calculation may be confusing, especially if the start date is the end of the month. For example, we all count February 20 to March 20 as one month. However, there are two ways to calculate age from Feb. 28, 2015 to Mar. 31, 2015. When you think of Feb. 28 to Mar. 28 as one month, the result is one month and 3 days. Considering both Feb. 28 and Mar. 31 as the end of the month, the result is one month. Both calculation results make sense. Similar conditions exist on days such as April 30 to May 31, May 30 to June 30, etc. Confusion arises from an unequal number of days in different months.
